Course Overview

This course enables participant to learn about the best practices for implementing and managing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) as specified in ISO 45001. This training also helps understanding how ISO 45001 is related with ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

Learning objectives

• To understand the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in accordance with ISO 45001
• To understand the relationship between an Occupational Health and Safety Management System, including hazard assessment and management, controls and compliance with the requirements of different stakeholders of the organization
• To know the concepts, approaches, standards, methods and techniques allowing to effectively manage an OHSMS
• To acquire the necessary knowledge to contribute in implementing an OHSMS as specified in ISO 45001

Course Agenda

Day 1: Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety Management System concepts as required by ISO 45001

• Presentation of the standards of the ISO family standards
• Introduction to management systems and the process approach
• Fundamental principles in Occupational Health and Safety
• General requirements: presentation of the ISO 45001 clause-by-clause
• Implementation phases of the ISO 45001 framework
• Continual improvement of Occupational Health and Safety
• Conducting an ISO 45001 certification audit

Day 2: Implementing Occupational Health and Safety according to ISO 45001 and Certification Exam

• Development of a training and awareness program and communication about the Occupational Health and Safety
• Operational control
• Emergency preparedness and response
• Operational management of an OHSMS
• ISO 45001 Foundation exam

None

Educational approach

• This training is based on both theory and practice
• Sessions of lectures illustrated with examples based on real cases
• Review exercises to assist the exam preparation
• Practice test similar to the certification exam
• To benefit from the practical exercises, the number of training participants is limited

Examination and Certification

• The “PECB Certified ISO 45001 Foundation” exam fully meets the requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Programme (ECP). The exam covers the following competence domains:
  • Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of Occupational Health and Safety
  • Domain 2: Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS)
• The “PECB Certified ISO 45001 Foundation” exam is available in different languages (the complete list of languages can be found in the examination application form)
• Duration: 1 hour

• A certificate of "PECB Certified ISO 45001 Foundation" will be issued to participants who successfully pass the exam and comply with all the other requirements related to this credential

General Information

• Certification fees are included in the exam price
• A student manual containing over 200 pages of information and practical examples will be distributed to participants
• A participation certificate of 14 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be issued to participants
• In case of failure of the exam, participants are allowed to retake the exam for free under certain conditions
